The Epic Journey of Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson Blu-Ray Review

Disc One,

Documentary – Although this Doc was pretty damn good, I gotta say I was expecting a little more. I’m not discrediting it at all, it is definitely great, it’s just that I felt it was a very in depth Montage on his career. Also, I don’t think there was any inside information that wasn’t revealed before besides Rock revealing why he didn’t come back for all the years. I think that inside information really makes these kinds of DVDs interesting and there really wasn’t any of it here. I did like the very few that talked on the presentation and that we got a lot out of Vince McMahon. It also was timed perfectly and it just breezed by. I felt The Rock could have talked some more than he did but it was still nice to have a sit down interview with him. Foley, Jericho, Vince and Triple H put him over huge here and pretty much told his haters off. This is definitely a fantastic Documentary and highly recommended but it could have been a bit better.

– The Rock vs. Triple H (Ladder Match) (SummerSlam ’98) ****

– The Rock vs. Mankind vs. Ken Shamrock (Cage Match) (Breakdown ’98) *** ¾

The Rock vs. Mankind (I Quit Match) (Royal Rumble ’99) ****

– The Rock vs. Stone Cold (No Hold Barred Match) (Backlash ’99) ****

Overall Disc One: 8.75

Disc Two,

The Rock vs. Kurt Angle vs. Triple H (SummerSlam ’00) *** ½

– The Rock & Undertaker vs. Edge & Christian (Raw 12/18/00) ** ½

– The Rock vs. Ric Flair (7/29/02) ** ¼

– The Rock vs. Brock Lesnar (SummerSlam ’02) *** ½

– The Rock vs. Hulk Hogan (No Way Out ’03) ** ¼

– The Rock & John Cena vs. Awesome Truth (Survivor Series ’11) ***

Overall Disc Two: 7.5

Overall Thoughts – This is definitely the best Rock DVD that has been released by far. After the last disappointing release, I’m definitely glad we got this one. The Documentary is pretty much what everybody has been waiting for and now that there is one it plugged right in with some great matches and segments to form this great DVD. Although Disc One blew Disc Two out of the water with matches, the segments on the second disc redeemed itself a bit. You could definitely tell that Disc One was when The Rock was on fire if you never watched a day of his career. I liked that there were a few forgotten matches on the set which WWE tends to throw on most of these sets. People have their points on why WWE should have waited a bit longer to release this until after WrestleMania 28, but it still turned out great. The Blu-Ray exclusive extras were also great, I’m so glad that they put this stuff on here because it’s definitely worth the extra couple of bucks. Overall this was definitely a fun time to watch and a trip down memory lane so it’s good we got it. I’m glad WWE is getting their releases hot early and starting their 2012 DVD catalog off with a bang.
